Multi-State Teacher Workforce Report

We’re pleased to announce the release of a new Multi-State Teacher Workforce Report, developed as a joint product between the New Jersey Statewide Data System (NJSDS) and Rhode Island’s Longitudinal Data System (RILDS). This project provides a comprehensive, data-driven view of the educator pipeline from preparation and certification to placement, retention, and mobility.

By addressing a longstanding challenge for states of aligning and standardizing definitions of teacher retention and mobility, this collaboration demonstrates how cross-state partnerships can produce more comparable, policy-relevant workforce insights. The interactive dashboard offers policymakers, educator preparation leaders, and workforce planners actionable information to strengthen teacher supply, identify shortages by subject and region, and support more equitable staffing decisions.

This project was intentionally designed to be replicable for other states, with documented methodology, a transparent technical approach, and publicly available code that other state data systems can test and adapt.

Explore the interactive dashboard to examine trends in teacher entry, movement, and retention and see how integrated, multi-state data can inform smarter teacher workforce strategies.
