Through the U.S. Department of Labor's Workforce Data Quality Initiative (WDQI), the RILDS Center partnered with the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training and the Governor's Workforce Board to evaluate workforce development programs. We explored postsecondary attainment among selected participants. We focused on participants in the largest workforce training programs -- Real Jobs Rhode Island (RJRI) and other programs funded collectively by the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
RJRI is a demand-driven workforce development initiative. RJRI partnerships build workforce solutions that address industries' challenges. This initiative places new employees into immediate job opening, up-skills current employees, and createsfuture talent pipelines. WIOA is "landmark legislation that is designed to strengthen and improve our nation's public workforce system and help get Americans, including youth and those with significant barriers to employment, into high-quality jobs and careers and help employers hire and retain skilled workers" (https://www.doleta.gov/wioa/).
The Governor's Workforce Board maintains records on these training programs, which the RILDS Center links with postsecondary education data from the Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner.
